Hockenheim 1990: New archive photos of Larrousse’s #29

Updated: Jan 5

A great surprise for our archives: several film photos from the 1990 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim have just been shared with us. Featuring the Larrousse #29 at speed, on the “old-school” Hockenheimring layout.

Hockenheim, 1990 : Speed captured on film

Some circuits instantly look fast in pictures. The 1990 Hockenheimring is one of them: long full-throttle sections, heavy braking zones, and that unmistakable stadium atmosphere in the background.
We’ve recently received a small set of previously unseen film photographs taken during the 1990 German Grand Prix. They feature the Larrousse #29, caught in real racing conditions — sharp car, blurred background — the kind of panning shots that truly convey speed.

ESPO Larrousse F1 at the time

In 1990, the team ran two cars and continued its partnership with the spectacular Lamborghini V12. The drivers were Frenchman Éric Bernard (car #29) and Japanese driver Aguri Suzuki (car #30).

The photos shared with us focus on the #29, with excellent side-on views and close-ups where period sponsors are clearly visible: UNISYS, ESPO Communications, TOSHIBA, TOWA, and more.

What these photos show

These images are not staged — and that’s exactly why they matter. They capture:
  • the car’s attitude and load through corners,
  • the true trackside atmosphere (signage, stands, background details),
  • and that special sense of speed that well-scanned film photography can deliver.

THANK YOU !

A big thank you to Axel F. who shared these photos with us. This is exactly the kind of contribution that keeps Larrousse history alive.

If you have photos, slides, tickets, programmes or any memorabilia related to the team (Hockenheim or elsewhere), feel free to get in touch — we’d love to feature them.
